Representatives from customs administrations, international organizations and the European Union concluded that the eTIR offers one of the most promising solutions to address many of the challenges affecting transit operations along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor), during a regional workshop held in Warsaw, Poland, from 7 to 9 September 2026.

Geneva, 05 August 2026 — Customs authorities of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan cleared six TIR transports without paper documents in July 2026, applying the eTIR procedure of the United Nations TIR Convention. Five of the six operations were multi-modal transports including a maritime leg, crossing the Caspian Sea between the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
