Workshop on the implementation of the eTIR Procedure in Central Asia (Dushanbe - Tajikistan)
On 27 May 2025, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Secretariat and the Government of Tajikistan organized a workshop on the implementation of the eTIR Procedure in Central Asia in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
The introduction of the eTIR procedure and presentation of all tools composing the eTIR ecosystem triggered genuine interest of experts from central Asian countries in identifying the best and fastest way to implement the eTIR procedure.
Customs experts from all five countries in Central Asia shared their latest achievements and future plans with regard to the digitalization of transit procedures. The implementation of the eTIR procedure ranks high in the list of means to further streamline transport in the region and beyond.
Participants were highly interested in the prerequisites to the implantation of the eTIR procedure, such as ensuring that data in the International TIR Data Bank (ITDB) is provided and kept up-to-date, in particular on their authorized transport operator, customs offices as well as illustrations of the customs stamps and sealing devices used for the TIR and eTIR procedure. Experts which were unfamiliar with the ITDB application acknowledged, after a live demonstration, how simple and fast it was to input and update data in the ITDB.
Finally, participants appreciated the demonstration of the eTIR National Application. Its ease of use, open source code, free deployment seduced customs representatives, who understood its potential to rapidly reap the benefits of the eTIR procedure in Central Asia.
The UNECE Secretariat will continue to work closely with countries in Central Asia to advance the implementation of eTIR and facilitate seamless international road transport across the region and beyond.
