UNECE Facilitates eTIR Implementation in the Eurasian Economic Union
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Secretariat, in collaboration with the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, hosted a workshop on September 17-18, 2024, to discuss the implementation of the eTIR procedure in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The workshop aimed to explore technical solutions to interconnect the countries of the EAEU to the eTIR international system. Participants from all EAEU member states engaged in discussions on various aspects of the eTIR implementation, such as:
- Data requirements and standards: Finding solutions to accommodate EAEU data requirements.
- Technical infrastructure: Identifying suitable technical solutions and platforms for eTIR implementation.
- Legal framework: Addressing legal and regulatory challenges related to electronic documents and cross-border recognition or electronic signatures.
The workshop highlighted the potential benefits of eTIR for EAEU member states, including:
- Simplified customs procedures: Reduced paperwork and faster border crossings.
- Enhanced security: Improved control and monitoring of international road transport.
- Increased trade facilitation: Streamlined logistics and reduced costs.
The UNECE Secretariat will continue to work closely with EAEU member states to advance the implementation of eTIR and facilitate seamless international road transport across the region.
